According to the National framework for the administration of discretionary hardship arrangements circular dated 10th October 2016, Q.6 on page 4 confirms that elastic stockings are available on the Hardship scheme, supported by a GP prescription. A maximum quantity of 2 pairs will be approved per year.
Some local health offices may request a hospital prescription for approval, particularly in the case of made to measure stockings, even though the above circular in Q.8 on page 5 specifically states that a hospital Rx is not required for elastic stockings.
If you need to order custom size compression stockings, they are supplied by Royale based in Co. Wicklow. Ring (01) 2011555 with the measurements and they are usually ready within a few days and cost circa €55. Be sure to get a quote before applying for Hardship cover.
