In its circular dated 22nd December 2016, the HSE informed pharmacists that in the rare event of a High-Tech medicine costing under €144 for a month's supply and dispensed under the DPS scheme, the patient should be charged the cost price of the medicine only, while paying in the normal way for any other medicines that they or their DPS linked family members have received.
It would appear that there have been instances of patients being charged €144 for HT medicines dispensed under the DPS scheme, even when the cost price was below that threshold. Essentially it's a bug in the software setup and the IPU are now working with all system vendors to update their software accordingly.
In the meantime please be cognizant of this issue and do not charge more than the cost price for below threshold priced HT medicines.
