PSI Launches Corporate Strategy Consultation 2018-2020

As the current Corporate Strategy for 2013-2017 is coming to an end, the PSI are now seeking feedback on their draft Corporate Strategy for 2018–2020.
 
As a public body, the PSI has an obligation to set out their strategy and its intended outcomes, and provide an opportunity for all those who are interested in or affected by their work to have a say in its future direction and development.
 

PSI Council Elections Deadline is 19th April 2017

The pharmacist seats held currently on the Council by Nicola Cantwell, Richard Collis, Ann Frankish, Edward MacManus and Caroline McGrath are up for election. Their terms of office will end on 17 June 2017.

By now you should have all received your ballot papers and have hopefully picked your preferred candidates.

A complaint involving the incorrect supply of the high tech medicine Enbrel® Injection to a minor

The PSI's Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) recently heard a case in which a minor was supplied with twice the prescribed dose of their medicine Enbrel® (etanercept) solution for injection, over the course of approximately one year.

The pharmacist had dispensed the medicine in error from the original prescription and this error was then repeated in the subsequent supplies as the patient medication record (PMR) was referred to rather than checking or endorsing the original prescription.

IIOP - CPD Examples in Practice

IIOP are providing free examples of CPD cycles on their website.

In this edition, they speak to pharmacist Fearghal O'Nia, supervising pharmacist at Dargan's Pharmacy in Dublin about his experiences of using the IIOP courses.

This is a really good example for supervising pharmacists focusing on managing quality in pharmacy practice.

These changes are summarised below for ease of reference for pharmacists. The full legislation will be available at www.irishstatutebook.ie once this legislation has been signed into law.
